In my first post of 2016 I mentioned that I attended a workshop last November in London hosted by Stylist Magazine as part of their #ReclaimYourLunchBreak campaign with two powerful speakers Firstly Vicki Psarias from HonestMum.com a professional blogger, multi-award winning TV Director and Filmmaker, oh and a mum of two; and PR guru Jessica Huie MBE founder of the award-winning multi-racial Color Blind Cards also a mum of two. I thought it was great seeing these two friends collaborate and help dreamers like me.
Making my way to the stylish venue Aubaine in Marylebone it occurred to me that when I worked as a PA for a busy bank in the City I rarely made proper use of my lunch hour so it was refreshing to see so many in attendance taking the time to get out and do something. I like the concept of this ongoing Stylist campaign encouraging productivity and wellbeing. This was a special afternoon for me as I finally got to meet Vicki who inspired me to start writing my very own blog in July 2014 which has already opened exciting opportunities. I can honestly say she is one of the loveliest people I’ve ever met and exudes positive energy and possesses an empowering nature. I feel it’s good and necessary to be around those that have uplifting energy and not ones that drain it. I hope I will be seeing more of this lady in the years to come.
Although an hour is not a great amount of time in the grand scheme of things I was able to take away valuable pointers that I have been working on since attending. Both of these highly successful business women talked about their entrepreneurial journeys. Vicki pointed out the rise of the ‘slashers’ those that have a variety of jobs running side by side, spinning lots of plates something that we are seeing a lot more of these days. She mentioned something which I think is so true and that is the importance of remembering where it all began and having the confidence to take charge of your own destiny. I was glad to learn more about increasing social presence and working with brands within the digital space.
One of the key factors with success is the confidence to take risks and stating your position to get the results you want. Jessica made her business venture stand out from others and emphasised taking the time to make a plan and pitch her ideas. Jessica who has worked with some of the world’s best known personalities and brands, runs a number of interactive workshops which address the importance of public relations for business. Both were clear that it is crucial to write goals both short and long term. But how many of us actually do it?
I am a firm believer that we can all unlock much more potential within ourselves and a lot of it comes down to the confidence to press that ‘Go’ button and not look back. I express my gratitude to Vicki, Jess and Stylist for sharing their advice and giving the many people in the room that extra push to reach higher. I even got a mention in Vicki’s blog post! which I was really chuffed about.
Have you written your goals for 2016?
Look out for more #ReclaimYourLunchBreak events this year.
